CALL FOR PROPOSALS IS CLOSED
Music archaeology is the study of material evidence of past people musicking. Additionally, music iconography focuses on the material representations of past and present performing arts. Although both disciplines frequently interact with museums and exhibitions, the transfer of knowledge still poses a significant challenge. Traditionally, academia and society have evolved in parallel, but in recent years, the academic world has recognized the importance of imparting knowledge to society and fostering collaboration between universities and institutions that provide the grounds for knowledge dissemination. Moreover, specific challenges arise in the conservation, digitalization, dissemination, and education of musical material culture, distinct from the approaches to intangible musical heritage, as the former must emphasizes materiality, and propose a particular ontology wherein the material evidence of past musics is considered an active agent requiring specific treatment.
This conference invites proposals for papers (20 minutes + 10 minutes discussion) exploring topics that may include (but are not limited to):
- Digitalization and digital environments
- Heritage education and musical material culture
- Musical material culture and Museology
- Music archaeology exhibitions / Musical instrument exhibitions / Music in the Museum.
- Musical material culture and ethics: Cultural property, representation and narrative constructions
- Case studies: From the study to the valorization
Deadline for submission of proposals is 25 April 2024. The acceptance will be notified by 25 May 2024.
