Inspirational Learning
The proposed theme for OKLC 2017 aims to explore the inspirational side of learning. Inspirational means “making you feel full of hope or encouraged; under the influence of inspiration”. The word “inspiration” comes from the Latin word “inspirare” which means “inspirit” or “divine guidance”. So, inspiration is something that someone feels on the inside and may act as a driving force. You may hear a speaker who inspires you, you may read a book that inspires you, you may hear a song that inspires you, you may meet a person who inspires you, or you may see something that inspires you. Whatever it is that inspires you, it touches you on the inside and connects you to a state of being more excited, productive, purposeful or anything that comes as a result of being inspired.
Inspiration is thus a process that flows into a purpose, knowing what you do and why you do it. Once you realise your life purpose, something inside of you awakens. Organizational purpose emerges from the vision, mission and values of an organization. Creating a purposeful organization is not easy, but it is especially necessary in tough times. It takes the commitment of leaders who hold themselves accountable for delivering on the corporate mission. Next, the challenge is to enable people to excel, help them discover their own wisdom, engage themselves entirely in their work, and accept responsibility for learning and making change. But while purpose is the spark that sets up the vision and defines its mission, it needs to be practiced. So a leader must "connect the dots" between what an employee does and why it matters to the organization. This all leads again to people engagement with a company so that purpose becomes personal and…inspirational.
By embracing this theme, we believe OLKC 2017 debate will help to reflect on hot topics needed to learn with inspiration in nowadays turbulent times. More than ever, inspiration is need as an ultimate thinking and learning tool. Or it always has been? New reflections around the need to connect individual, social and organizational side of learning and knowledge resources, the importance of leadership, the need for human resource development, the role of emotions, the tolerance for errors, women’s leadership learning, the theory on ambidexterity and a etc. It all together with contributions offering insights on new research possibilities on organizational learning will be welcomed.
