 This exhibition is an outstanding testament to the quality of Spanish sculpture from the Middle Ages through to the 19th century.Its collection includes a range of sculptures (altarpieces, choir stalls, funerary monuments, processional statues...) and materials (wood, bronze, stone, clay and ivory). The collection traces the evolution of religious imagery, which with the introduction of polychromed wood attained its maximum splendour in Spain, featuring highly lifelike pieces capable of conveying genuine sensations and emotions. Three of the Spanish Baroque's most important sculptors, Juan de Juni, Alonso Berruguete and Gregorio Fernández have their own dedicated areas. The most outstanding works include the 16th-century main altarpiece of San Benito by Alonso Berruguete, and the 15th-century altarpiece depicting Christ's descent from the Cross, by an anonymous sculptor. Furthermore, since December 2011 the museum houses the collections from the former National Museum of Artistic Reproductions. The museum's main site is the College of San Gregorio, a magnificent 15th-century building which was originally used as a training center for theologians, mystics and inquisitors. The museum also comprises the neighbouring buildings of the Villena Palace and the Casa del Sol. The visit departs and ends from the Museum.

 Palace “Santa Cruz”: Guided visit to the Historic University Library and guided visit to the Museum of African Art Arellano Alonso

 We are excited to welcome you to Valladolid!
 
 The University of Valladolid has a magnificent historical library, the Santa Cruz library, of recognized national and international prestige. Located in the Palacio de Santa Cruz, it is the work of Cardinal Don Pedro González de Mendoza and houses a lavish bibliographic and documentary collection divided into four sections: the Manuscripts section, which contains 520 pieces, including the oldest and most valuable piece in the library, Los Comentarios al Apocalípsis de San Juan de Beato de Liébana, a Mozarab-style codex from the year 970. A second section includes the Incunabula and Rarities and is made up of 355 volumes, outstanding amongst which is its oldest book, a work by Bernardo Justiniano printed in Rome in 1471.

 It also has a section of Printed Matter, comprising 23,887 volumes from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Of particular value is the remarkable section of Papers, containing 4.000 booklets from the 18th and 19th centuries, mainly referring to the life of the university itself and 502 documents printed in Valladolid from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Together, they form one of the largest collections of documents to be found in any Spanish university. It is well organized and is at the disposal of researchers from all over the world with the help of the latest technology. The Santa Cruz library is not only the depositary of the historical memory of the University of Valladolid, but is also a dynamic institution, reflecting the respect this age-old institution holds for science and tradition. Join us for the visit to the Historic Library. Visits will begin at 17:30 in small groups of about 25 persons.

 As it will developed in small groups, the visit to the Historic Library is simultaneous to a guided visit to the Museum of African Art Jiménez-Arellano Alonso (UVA). The museum belongs to the non-profit organization Alberto Jiménez-Arellano Alonso, enrolled in the framework of University of Valladolid, and whose essential aim is to promote arts. It also has the headquarter in the Palacio de Santa Cruz of Valladolid. His three galleries are dedicated to African art. Two of them have collections of African terracotta and the other one is home to the exposition of Oku Kingdom, a place located in Cameroon.
 
  
 
  
 
 Welcome reception at the Palace “Santa Cruz”: Aula Triste and Gardens of the Residence Hall Santa Cruz
 
 Right after the visits, at 19:00 you will be welcomed by the Chancellor of the University at the "Aula Triste"  of the Palace Santa Cruz continuing with an inspiring baroque guitar recital. Next, and if the weather is generous with us, please join us to enjoy some refreshment at the gardens of the residence hall Santa Cruz, next to the Palace, where you can meet friends at the start of the conference!!
 
  
 
 22:00 GUIDED NIGHT TOUR “<a href="http://valladolidriosdeluz.es/" target="_blank">RÍOS DE LUZ</a>” (RIVERS OF LIGHT)
 
 In this light walk tour you will know the historic center of Valladolid when the city dresses up in the evening, understanding why it won the prize for the best illuminated city in the world.

The buildings that are part of this route are illuminated of a color or another according to a symbology:</pre>
 
 The bluish green includes the layout of areas through which the River Esgueva passed in the past.

Imperial red is used for buildings of cultural uses.</pre>

For temples and churches, color varies according to the liturgical calendar.</pre>

 The Ríos de Luz runs through the main monuments, squares and avenues of the city center. During the walk we will see the Plaza Mayor, the Academy of Cavalry, Villena Palace, Pimentel Palace, University Square, Pasaje Gutiérrez, Fabio Nelli Palace, Teatro Calderón, Casa del Sol, San Gregorio, the Cathedral, the Old City, San Pablo and many other points of interest.

 Thanks to this project Valladolid was awarded as the best illuminated city in the world in 2011. The vote was held in Sweden among 180 candidate cities.

 18:30 SOCIAL DINNER
 
 The Gala Dinner of the OLKC 2017 will take place the 27th April and will be held in the "<a href="http://www.elhilodeariadna.es/" target="_blank">Crossroad winery El Hilo de Ariadna</a>".
 
 This Winery belongs to <a href="http://www.grupoyllera.com/idioma/eng/" target="_blank">Grupo Yllera</a> and is located in Villa de Rueda (at 40 km from Valladolid), a village which has a great viticulture tradition and home of a high number of wineries that have been lost due to abandonment or collapse. Specifically, in the Crossroad Winery "El Hilo de Ariadna" grupo Yllera has gathered art, culture, history, mythology and wine through a beautiful analogy between the known myth Minotaur and the wine World, through the intricate crossroad of wineries that go through the depths of Villa de Rueda. Across 10 rooms they relate an episode or a myth character to each of their wines.
 
 Before the Gala Dinner takes place, our congresspersons could enjoy a tour through the underground wineries that actually form the labyrinth where the minotaur anclosed the princess Ariadna.
 
 Right after the wineries visit, the actual dinner will take place in the fabolus Mudejar dinning-room & barrels room.
 
 Bus departs from the University Square at 18:30!

 Friday 28th April

 17:00 FAREWELL WINE TASTING AT THE CONFERENCE VENUE 

 We will close the OLKC 2017 Conference with a wine tasting to enjoy the wines of “<a href="http://www.byvescudero.com/en/" target="_blank">Bodegas y viñedos Escudero</a>”, a winery situated in the village of Olmedillo de Roa (Burgos). In this charming little village, the Escudero Family cultivate 40 hectares of their own vineyards, all of them free-standing vines (globet style), distributed in 9 different pagos. Some of these vineyards are older than 90 years. The main variety of the vinyeards is Tempranillo, but they also grow other grape varieties in experimental phase.

 Several generations of the Escudero Family have devoted themselves with true passion to viticulture with a single philosophy: the production of their own quality grapes with great respect by the land ,see king the expression of the soil and the grape variety, qualities that they have maintained through the years and that have been transmitted from parents to children.

 We want to give the OLKC 2017 Conference this final touch so that our delegates may have a last chance to exchange impressions and enjoy the good taste of traditional products of Castilla y León, such as wine, bread and cheese.

 The wine tasting will take place at Room Cardenal Mendoza in the Conference Venue (Palace of Congress Conde Ansúrez).
